CE 1.2 BACKGROUND

 

CE 1.2.1 Nature of project

The career episode selected was regarding the actions taken for the Client’s requirement to upgrade the Commercial building of 22 floors from Seismic Zone-1 to Seismic Zone-3.

CE 1.2.2 ObjectiveS

My Company was the Main Contractor for constructing the commercial building of 22 Floors. My Company had started the works on the site and after erecting the structural works up to the Ground floor, the Client has intended to strengthen the building to withstand Seismic zone-3 effects.

As the structural works were already begun on the site, the main objective was to strengthen the building without affecting the progress of works on site and without additional time.

CE 1.2.5 statement of duties

  • One of my major responsibility was to attend the Client’s new requirement. Preparing and submitting the new proposals for the project’s Consultant and Client approval.
  • Making sure the proposal to be submitted for the Client’s approval should accomplish utilizing the company’s available resources, following the best construction practice and in line with the project completion date.
  • Regular discussions and coordination with Site’s construction and technical teams.
  • Regular Coordination with the external designers for the design progress of the new project’s requirement.
  • Preparing the cost plans for the variation works. Submitting variation package to the Client/Project’s consultant for review and approval.
  • Negotiating the submitted variations to make sure official variation order is issued prior to varied works commencement. Also, looking after official close-out of the variations.
  • Arranging required Manpower, equipment and material to perform additional works.

CDR CAREER EPISODE – II

CE 2.2 BACKGROUND

 

CE 2.2.1 Nature of project

The career episode selected was regarding the actions taken with regards to an HVAC subcontractor on Dhahran Techno Valley Company (DTVC) and Building No.78 of KFUPM which consists of construction and detailed engineering design for Research & Development building and Laboratory building.

CE 2.2.2 ObjectiveS

My Company was the Main Contractor for constructing the DTVC and Lab building within KFUPM area. This project was LSTK (Lump Sum Turn Key) type project and my Company has a complete responsibility to design and build the project.

My company following traditional procurement route had appointed a Subcontractor for complete engineering, supply, delivery, installation and testing & commissioning of HVAC works on the above said project. This career episode is regarding the actions taken to overcome the effects when the appointed HVAC subcontractor stated their unwillingness to proceed with the HVAC works.

CE 2.2.5 statement of duties

  • I am responsible for attending commercial and contractual issues of the Subcontractors.
  • Recording the Subcontractors progress of work on the site and certifying their monthly progress invoices.
  • Resolving the contractual/commercial issues of the Subcontractors. Providing significant inputs for finalizing the Purchase Orders to the Subcontractors.
  • Regular discussions and coordination with the Project’s construction and technical teams.
  • Coordinating in the procurement activities of the project to make sure the materials are delivered to the site before starting the related construction activities.
  • Preparing the cost plans for the variation works. Submitting variation package to the Client/Project’s consultant for review and approval.
  • Negotiating the submitted variations with the Client to make sure official variation orders are issued prior to works commencement. Also, looking after official close-out of the variations.
  • Arranging required Manpower, equipment and material to perform additional works.

CDR CAREER EPISODE – III

CE 3.2 BACKGROUND

 

CE 3.2.1 Nature of project

The case selected was for additional works on a mega-infrastructure project for the development of an isolated area located along Dammam-Riyadh highway.

CE 3.2.2 ObjectiveS

The main objective was to find a feasible solution for the disposal of sewage water-system which was ineffective and there were not in my Company’s (Main Contractor) scope of works.

During the final stages of the project, the Client has found the disposal of Sewer water-system was ineffective. The Client had requested my Company (Main Contractor) to submit a proposal for the disposal of Sewage water.

CE 3.2.5 statement of duties

  • I am responsible for attending to the Project’s/Client’s new requirement. Preparing and submitting the new proposals for the project’s Consultant’s and Client’s approval.
  • Ascertaining the proposals being submitted for the Client’s approval should be in accordance with best construction practice and in line with the project requirements.
  • Regular discussions and coordination with Site’s construction and technical teams.
  • Regular Coordination with the external designers for the design progress of the new project’s requirement.
  • Providing complete support in obtaining necessary approvals from different government authorities.
  • Preparing the cost plans for the variation works. Submitting variation package to the Client/Project’s consultant for review and approval.
  • Negotiating the submitted variations to make sure official variation order is issued prior to varied works commencement. Also, looking after official close-out of the variations.
  • Arranging required Manpower, equipment and material to perform additional works.
